‘What if…?’ Episode 7 Full Circle Cinema “Thor Onlyson” Review –

What if…? is back with a brand new episode this week after a very intriguing previous episode. This week’s episode features the God of Thunder himself, Thor Odinson, seeing his family being altered and reshaped in this alternate universe. The Watcher’s eyes are fixed on him as we reflect on the matter, What if… Thor was an only child? Does this unique concept lend itself well to an entire episode? The answer is yes with a fun twist.
I must admit that of all the premises previously announced, the one that had me the least excited was this one. I didn’t know where it could go or how cool it could be. Fortunately, the episode is very different from the previous entries. He fully immerses himself in a silly, wacky, ridiculous house party that went wrong in the Nine Realms and doesn’t hold back. I didn’t expect this tone to work at all and was a bit distracted at first. As the episode progressed I just bought it and had a blast.
Part of what makes this work so well is the voice of the actors. Besides the Zombies episode, this episode of What if…? certainly featured the most diverse and varied cast of characters. I was very happy to see some of them come back and I did not expect it at all. Fortunately, almost all of them are voiced by their original cast, the stars being Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman and Kat Dennings. They delivered the animosity needed to make it work and they just seemed to be having a blast in the recording booth.
Another interesting information is that we have somehow another What if…? in this episode, I certainly debated it with friends. It comes in the form of Thor vs. Captain Marvel. Two of the MCU’s most powerful heroes finally go head-to-head and what a treat. The lively medium allows this fight to go to extremes that may not be seen in the live action. It was entertaining, beautiful to watch, and just plain fun. It also has to do with the house party situation gone awry because, let’s face it, every party has to fight, right?

Lots of funny nods are also seen throughout the episode. I loved hearing the Thor: Ragnarok score throughout the episode thanks to the presence of the Grand Master. Finding background characters from other MCU entries was a fun task to complete while watching it. It’s always especially nice to catch Howard the Duck whenever you can. Not only that, but a subtle nod to Gatsby the magnificent can also be seen and it was just a nice touch.
Another thing I wanted to touch on is that some of these episodes should be followed up in the following season. I manifest and plead with AC Bradley and the team working on What if…? To PLEASE follow this episode. (SPOILS FOLLOW FOR THE END OF WHAT IF…? EPISODE 7) The teasing with Vision as Ultron with all the Infinity Stones is just too great to be left alone. What if…? is the perfect vessel to explore this and with this setup how can you not want more ?!
Of all the episodes out of What if…?, this one is the most “what-iffy” of all. This shows that he doesn’t have to be completely dark to coerce or take himself seriously. A lot of aspects are changed here and various avenues are explored, which is exactly what this show strives to do. Is it radically different from the previous episodes? Absolutely, but it was such a trip and such a great time that I ended up with a huge smile at the end. Episodes like these are the ones that make me thankful for the existence of this show.
The seventh episode of What if…? is ultimately a blast from start to finish. It’s wacky, fun, and silly in the best possible way. It delivers on all fronts and is another fantastic entry into the first season. Fantastic performance, great concepts and amazing nods make this one out of the ordinary. – Kenneth colon
