The World War Hulk movie gets a discouraging update
With She-Hulk: Lawyer on the horizon, MCU fans’ eyes turn to all things green and mean. While there’s plenty to be excited about Tatiana Maslany’s take on Jennifer Waters, many will be tuning in to see what Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner has up to.
As of now, Banner has not received a movie due to licensing issues with Universal. While there was speculation that things had cleared up and a World War Hulk movie was in the works, there hasn’t been much news since. While Ruffalo has done a great job of bringing the character to life in his many appearances across the MCU, many are still waiting for the day when he can take center stage.
Unfortunately, a new rumor seems to indicate that this day could still be long overdue.
A Year Without World War Hulk Updates
In a new post for Twitter, scooper Charles Murphy has commented on what he knows about the status of the supposed World War Hulk project, and the news isn’t encouraging. Murphy reports that he did not hear “one thing about [World War Hulk] in over a year.”
No news, that’s bad news for the Hulk
Of all the heroes in the MCU, Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk holds an interesting position. He remains one of the few remaining original Avengers, but is the only one yet to headline his own project. Edward Norton portrayed the character in 2008 The Incredible Hulkand Ruffalo’s version has become the definitive take since he took on the role for 2012 The Avengers.
As it stands, if the World War Hulk project doesn’t move forward, She-Hulk could very well end up being the closest thing fans get to a Hulk-centric project for a while. While the MCU certainly isn’t starving for the Hulk’s presence, there are a huge number of potential storylines that could center around the character – far too many for him to continually be used only in a supporting role.
Ruffalo’s take on Bruce Banner is truly iconic, and the passion he brings to any project he’s involved in is clear. He’d do a fantastic job headlining a project, be it a movie or a Disney+ show, so it’s really only a matter of time before he takes his rightful place ( the problem with Universal does not stand).
In the comics, World War Hulk followed the Planet Hulk storyline, much of which was adapted into Thor: Ragnarok. Since Banner returned to Earth in Avengers: Infinity War and had apparently hit it off with his other half as soon as End of Game, it’s possible the road to including a World War Hulk script adaptation was confusing. Banner and Hulk’s current state really doesn’t set the stage for a World War Hulk adaptation, so the status quo may need to be shaken up more before that happens.
Regardless of Hulk’s solo project status, fans of the character won’t have to wait long to see him back in action. She-Hulk: Lawyer premieres its first episode on Sunday, August 17.
