“The romance of cinema will never change”: Vicky Kaushal
The romance of cinema has always drawn audiences to theaters. With the increase in Covid cases, however, cinemas have had to be closed. Filmmakers have gone the OTT route and many big-banner films have been released on online platforms. While many believe OTT will take over the big screen, our July cover star, Vicky Kaushal, says the romance of cinema “will never change”.
“I’m not an expert to be really in the know, but I feel like first of all, of course, health is of the utmost importance. So even if the movies hit the big screen, we have to be very careful getting back to theaters. Of course, I hope it will become safe for us soon. But the consumption of cinema and the romanticism of cinema will never die. Avenues will open up and there will be more and more choices. But with the cinema, the experience of community viewing, the experience of stepping into a dark room where you forget about the outside world, you are immersed in a world that inspires you, that kind of hypnotic effect that you have, c ‘is her romance, and it will always be there.
“What can happen,” he continues, “and I think what will happen is the kind of movies that hit theaters and the viewing will be separate. We also have to realize that the country has been affected economically, and for the common man, who works from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., watching a movie was only one Friday a month. For him, saving money for an outing during the pandemic and the luxury of the cinema comes a bit low.
So I think the choice they make if they have to watch a movie, they’ll go for a certain type of movie. When audiences start to choose, producers choose accordingly. I think there’s going to be a change but in essence I don’t think it’s going to change the excitement we have of going to see a movie in theaters. We’re just waiting for a better time, ”he says. Kaushal’s projects like Love per square foot and Stories of lust did so online, but the star has yet to make her official debut on OTT.
On the work side, Vicky Kaushal has many films in the works. He owns Sardar Udham Singh, finished just before confinement, Immortal ashwatthama with Aditya Dhar, and Sam manekshaw with Meghna Gulzar in preparation.
