  • The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures opened on September 30, 2021
  • Make advance reservations online; tickets are timed; children 17 and under can visit for free
  • Wilshire and Fairfax on the Miracle Mile

Academy Museum opens: Like so many films it celebrates, the august institution that debuted on the Miracle Mile on September 30 had been in the making for years. Now, filmdom’s ultimate nexus welcomes guests eager to explore its permanent “Movie Stories” collection, the Hayao Miyazaki retrospective, backdrop art glimpse, and the separate ticket Oscar experience. Café at Fanny’s opened on opening day, and that 1,000-seat David Geffen theater inside the Renzo Piano designed sphere? The program of upcoming films is live.

Halloween Road: If you’ve been planning your entire October viewing list around the classic fare featured on Freeform and its “31 Nights of Halloween” deals, then you’ve surely heard of the early October pop-ups that celebrate every show. and movies to come. Fans will follow the “Halloween Road” to the Heritage Square Museum, where appearances of the Sanderson sisters, characters from the Addams Family and other odes of pop culture will appear. It always sells out quickly, so check online for tickets before heading to the cool Victorian-era destination, which is just off the 110.

Pumpkin Patches Abundance: Many haunted labyrinthine spots in our area debuted earlier in September, but several fall favorites are expected to roll into the atmosphere during the first weekend of October. The huge (and we mean huge, with 40,000 pumpkins) Cal Poly patch opens in Pomona on October 2, but you’ll need to purchase your ticket in advance. Hana Field in Costa Mesa opens on October 1, but buy your ticket and get a parking pass in advance (there are sunflowers as well as pumpkins, sweet). And even the Beverly Center has a photo-ready facility for patch fans, right inside 3rd Street. This opens on October 1st.

LAWineFest Returns: Chard, cab, pinot, something sparkling? Our area just happens to be so close to so many wonderful wineries, and getting to know the labels that inhabit California is on any local oenophile’s must-list. How about enjoying a celebration that gives you the opportunity to try products from multiple wineries, all at once? The location is Harry Bridges Memorial Park in Long Beach, general admission is $ 80, and your designated driver’s admission is $ 20. Food trucks will be on the lot, as well as tables from several wineries, including Diniz Cellars, Pope Valley Winery and several others.

Boo at the Zoo: Looking for a slice of the season outside and full of amazing animals? The Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens is the place to circle on your map. His annual Boo-ful party is back, throughout October, but note that weekends have more activities, and the last two weekends of the month will include the option to take a tour of the park. world famous animal keeper. Also something to watch out for on weekends? A few of the local critters will be given pumpkins to munch on, so watch how they make a deliciously and oh-so-tasty mess of seeds and pulp. Yum.
