RED announces the Raptor 8K S35 – YMCinema

RED has announced an S35 (Super 35) version of its flagship, the V-Raptor. This camera is still being tested by RED. Additionally, Raptor XL shipping will begin in August. Read CEO Jarred Land’s statement below.
While we are dealing with FF (Full-Frame) sensors that are springing up like mushrooms, it seems that the S35 (Super 35) is back in the game. Next week, ARRI is going to announce its brand new S35 beast/flagship (full details here), and RED has just announced the testing phase of a Super 35 version of the Raptor.
The Raptor 8K S35 sensor is out of the oven and I’m testing it in Big Sur with the foxes.

So why develop an S35 version if the main feature of the Raptor is its full-frame sensor? Well why not? You can think of the new Raptor 8K S35 like Helium was to Monstro. Here’s what RED CEO Jarred Land just said: “The Raptor 8K S35 sensor is out of the oven and I’m testing it in Big Sur with the foxes. First we need to know what format you want to see in S35”. As for the price, we can expect a price between the Komodo and the Raptor VV.
Later today, we’ll be opening reservations for Raptor XL on RED.com for early August shipping.

Another announcement made earlier by RED is the ship date for the V-Raptor XL. As Land said, “With the supply chain finally showing some relief and XL ready to go into production, later today we’ll be opening reservations for Raptor XL on RED.com for early shipping. Aug. We’ve made some nice upgrades to XL along the way with all the anticipation…as you can see the PL mount is now machined from titanium…XL or standard body size as we don’t want to push our luck with the supply chain right out of the gate by doing both. We’ll add both sizes to the booking page so you can all decide.” The V-Raptor XL is an “all-in-one system, tailored studio setups and high-end productions. Includes internal ND filter, 24V auxiliary power supply, interchangeable lens mount, etc. The price is $39,500. At this time there is no option to reserve the XL, however, we will update the article when this is the case.
