Quentin Tarantino has embarked on a new career, that of author. His first non-fiction book, titled Cinema Speculation should be released in October.

Tarrantino announced some time ago that he would be hanging up his directorial cap after finishing his tenth film. While everyone eagerly awaits the final film, it’s seemingly been busy wearing a new hat – that of authorship.

Given his fondness for all things film, it’s only natural that he turned to writing. Cinema Speculation (HarperCollins), a new book that details the main American films of the 70s. Tarantino delves into film history and delivers film theory, reviews and personal story notes, from the era that first ignited his passion for filmmaking, and became the driving force behind his decision to make movies.

In a recent conversation with IndieWireTarantino has said he sees writing books as a way to stay creative when he’s no longer working behind the camera. With his first fiction book already in an envelope, Once upon a time in Hollywood what was adapted from his ninth film of the same name, Tarrinto was quite passionate in his storytelling, “I have this character who was in World War II, and he saw a lot of bloodshed there,” Tarantino said of his other upcoming novel. “And now he’s back home, and it’s like the 50s, and he doesn’t respond to movies anymore. He finds them juvenile after everything he’s been through. For him, Hollywood movies are And then, all of a sudden, he starts hearing about these foreign films of Kurosawa and Fellini.

It’s nice to see that he still lives and breathes filmography, even in writing.

HarperCollins, the publisher of his next non-fiction book Cinema Speculation Remarks “As well as being one of the most celebrated contemporary filmmakers, Quentin Tarantino is perhaps the world’s most happily infectious movie buff. For years he has bragged in interviews about his eventual turn to writing books. about the films. Now, with “Cinema Speculation”, the time has come and the results are everything his passionate fans – and all movie buffs – could have hoped for. Organized around key American films of the 1970s, which he has all first seen as a young film buff at the time, this book is as intellectually rigorous and insightful as it is joyful and entertaining. Part film review, part film theory, part reporting feat, and part wonderful personal story, it’s all written in a singular voice instantly recognizable as QT and with the rare perspective on filmmaking possible only from one of the art form’s greatest practitioners.”
