Netflix loses iconic movie trilogy on Wednesday
the Back to the future The trilogy leaves Netflix in a few days. Fans of the films only have until Wednesday to see how Marty McFly and Doc Brown pull themselves out of the mess of the space-time continuum they find themselves in. After June 30, fans will only be able to watch the Back to the future films if they have a physical copy or if they wish to rent them for distribution on VOD platforms. Keep in mind that movies often leave Netflix only to return several months later.
The three Back to the future films each star Michael J. Fox as Marty and Christopher Lloyd as Doc. In the first film, Marty goes back to 1955, where he spoils his parents’ first meeting and puts his very existence in danger. In the sequel, Marty’s future actions prove to have dangerous repercussions in the past. The story of the trilogy ends with Marty returning to the Old West to save Doc. All three films were directed by Robert Zemeckis, who wrote the scripts with Bob Gale. Steven Spielberg was a producer of the trilogy.
Back to the future (1985), Back to the future II (1989), and Back to the future part 3 (1990) returned to Netflix on May 1. The movies were also available for a few months in 2020. When they joined Netflix around this time, some eagle-eyed fans noticed that there was a very sloppy edit in Back to the future II, but it was quickly resolved. During one scene in the film, Marty (Michael J. Fox) believed he had retrieved the sports almanac from Biff Tannen (Thomas F. Wilson) only to discover that Biff had used the jacket to cover his copy of Oh dear magazine. This shot, vital for the film’s climax, briefly vanished.
The original Back to the future celebrated its 36th anniversary this year, but it remains one of the most beloved movie franchises ever to be made. Lloyd, who played Doc Brown, even starred in a Discovery + series called Expedition: Back to the future, in which he joined Unknown shipment host Josh Gates to find a used DeLorean DMC-12 onscreen. The series was released in March and included appearances by Fox, Lea Thompson, and James Tolkan.
While promoting the new show, Lloyd said that one of the reasons the films always keep in touch with audiences has nothing to do with time travel. At the heart of the film, Gale and Zemeckis crafted a related family story. “Back to the future, this is Michael J. Fox, his mother and father, “said Lloyd TooFab. “It’s a family photo and they’re going through some amazing times themselves. All families have that in one way or another. You know everyone identifies with it. identifies with Michael J. Fox as a teenager, in school. “
It should also be noted that the Back to the future The franchise is one of the few that never sees a reboot or sequel. In an October 2020 interview with Collider, Gale said he told a “full story” in the original trilogy and also said there was no way to make a BTTF movie without Fox like Marty. Gale also explained that he and Zemeckis have an agreement with producer Steven Spielberg that makes it impossible to make another movie without their involvement.
“We didn’t want to be those guys who made a movie that was basically a grab for money,” Gale said. Universal tells us, ‘You would make a lot of money,’ but we’re like, ‘Well, we’ve already made a lot of money with these movies, and we love them the way they are. And as proud parents, we are not going to sell our children into prostitution. ‘”
