Just as the plot of a film can boast of several intricate and intertwined elements, certain months of the year can also vibrate tons of cinematic credibility.
Take June, for example. Admittedly, the sixth month is cinematically star-studded, with several blockbuster-type films filling the release schedule. This is also when pop-up drive-ins and outdoor movie screenings pop into parks and outdoor venues around Los Angeles.
And add another thread to the story of the moviegoer month? The fact that Last Remaining Seats, the Los Angeles Conservancy’s decades-old fundraiser, is also very happy in June.
This series, which traditionally takes place in some of our city’s most famous cinema palaces, will not be happening in 2021, much like in 2020.
But to help moviegoers stay connected to the conservatory for a film-free month of June, and to showcase our city’s talent for delivering famous films to truly famous sets, the LA Conservancy team have come up with LRS Unseated.
The “LRS” you will surely understand, being an ardent fan of Last Remaining Seats. As for the “No sitting” part? This means you’ll be on the go, on your own, looking for various restaurants, streets, and corners where iconic movie scenes have taken place.
The self-guided downtown Los Angeles tour was recently released and covers some greats, with âChinatown,â âGhostbustersâ and âBlade Runnerâ on the list.
There are still more neighborhoods to come, so watch this page for more free downloadable tours (all of which were created by the LRS volunteer committee). The Hollywood Self-Guided Places Look will be released on June 18, and West Los Angeles, Griffith Park, Koreatown, and The Valley will all roll out later in June.
As you and your favorite moviegoer travel to these places, you will surely be asking yourself a few questions.
For example, did you know that a movie has already made a particular place legendary, or have you ever passed through particular places without knowing their headlining status?
Have you seen all of the films on the list?
And can you tell, off the top of my head, one of the lines the stars of the movie said about this place?
Call it a fresh take on June, a strong month in movies in many memorable ways.
Last Remaining Seats is set to return to our legendary movie palaces in 2022, but boosting your knowledge of classic cinema right now, and finding out how so many films have taken inspiration from the look of LA, seems like a sweet, cinematic way to start summer ‘ 21.
