Karan Johar claims Aamir Khan is responsible for loss of tone in Hindi cinema
New Delhi: Director Karan Johar, in the recent episode of “Koffee with Karan 7”, claims that actor Aamir Khan is responsible for the loss of tone in Hindi cinema that Southern cinema offers.
During a conversation with Aamir, the director of “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil” said, “It was so successful that some of the films in the southern industry came to us with ‘Baahubali’, then ‘RRR’. ‘KGF’ and ‘Pushpa’ and some of our movies that didn’t work. Is there a change that has happened recently in our movies with respect to the tone of ‘KGF’ or “Pushpa” that Hindi cinema actually had. In fact, we gave it up and you are responsible for it.
Explaining why he finds Aamir to be responsible for all of this, Karan said, “In 2001, you came up with two films ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ and ‘Lagaan’, both of them had new sensibilities, both of them had a new syntax in cinema so after that you made a movie ‘Rang De Basanti’ in 2006 and then you did ‘Taare Zameen Par’ right after that with the result that you started making a certain audience and filmmakers.”
To which Aamir denied all the claims and said, “No, you are wrong. They were all films from the heart. These films had emotions. They reach the common man. It is something that you will emotionally connect to. ‘Rang De Basanti’ is a very moving film. It affects people at the grassroots. »
Aamir added, “I’m not saying do action movies or rough movies. Make good movies with great stories, but choose topics that are relevant to most people. Every filmmaker has the freedom to do whatever they want. But when you pick something that most of India doesn’t really care about… There are niches that are interested, which most of us don’t realize. That’s what I feel, that’s the difference.
South Indian films in recent years have had outstanding performances all over the world. But big Bollywood films like ‘Prithviraj’, Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Shamshera’ and Ranveer Singh’s ‘Jayeshbhai Jordaar’ failed to attract audiences to theaters.
Other than that, the fifth episode of Karan’s chat show ended on a very happy note, with the ‘Sarfarosh’ actor winning the fast lap with 73% of the live audience votes and with Kareena winning the fast lap with a majority of 15 points in its kitty.
Meanwhile, speaking from the work front, Aamir is currently busy promoting his upcoming family entertainer film ‘Laal Singh Chadha’ which is set to hit theaters on August 11, 2022. The film also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Mona Singh .
‘Laal Singh Chadha’ is set to face a big box office clash with Akshay Kumar’s upcoming film ‘Raksha Bandhan’.
