Cinemas continue to diversify to attract customers
SEOUL, June 21 (Korea Bizwire) – South Korea’s major movie theaters are increasingly trying to explore new types of content by leveraging their strengths in large screens and audio systems.
Lotte Cinema, one of the country’s three largest multiplex chains, unveiled “Pop-up Travel Live” in collaboration with travel content creator Guide Live.
The program is designed to connect cinema audiences with foreign tour guides, allowing the former to enjoy live online tours of famous tourist attractions around the world.
Viewers of the cinema can enjoy a real-time view of the landscape of these tourist attractions and communicate with local tour guides through open discussions.
“We also plan to introduce a program that allows moviegoers to enjoy a variety of works of art in famous international museums and galleries through our screens,” said Lotte Cinema.
Another Megabox movie channel has released an audio program called “Sound Movie” through their app. After exploring a storyline that didn’t work like a movie, the company developed it into an audio program.
Megabox staff did the planning and creation of content from selection to adaptation. The audio recording was also done by company staff rather than comedians.
The company also plans to turn a variety of unique short and medium novels that it has found in independent bookstores and publishing houses, as well as films that have already been released, into various audio recordings.
