Cinema Diverse 2021 brings together the best of LGBTQ + films
We have the filmmakers coming out for LA A Queer Story, AIDS Diva: The Legend of Connie Norman, which is an excellent documentary, Along came Wanda, and Gina Garcia, the subject of Untold: This is my story.
I see that you are expanding the festival offer beyond films?
I have long wanted to really expand the festival out of the film box and with our upstairs space we have such a nice gallery space that I thought it would be great to have an LGBTQ artist participating in it by having a gallery. And so I called Terry hastings because I know him and I really like his art.
And did that line of thought come into Slide the pop and Dragorama with Rosemary Galore?
Leanne did Slide the pop as a sort of pop-up event with multiple venues around town and we thought it would just be an ideal. I love the concept and we thought it would be really fun for Cinema Diverse. And then of course we presented Rosemary galore with our singing films. Rosemary grew up in Palm Springs, and she wanted to do a new show called Dragaroma. It’s kind of a drag show on Palm Springs.
I think it’s going to be interesting to see how all of the live events blend in with the events of the movie. I just feel like it makes sense that the cultural center really brings many kinds of cultures together at the festival. And that’s really what we’re trying to do.
