An Annoying New Korean Action Movie Just Dropped On Netflix
I’m a simple man – I see streaming content that has nothing to do with spies and espionage? I will click, every time. slow horses on Apple TV Plus? Yes please. snowdrops on Disney+? I don’t mind if I do. Netflix already has a lot of content along these lines, like the excellent Israel spy series Fauda. And it’s also now streaming Yaksha: Ruthless Operations. A Korean-language movie (something, in my opinion, the streamer doesn’t get enough of, since Korean series get all the attention) that has spies and black ops teams at its heart.
Yaksha: Ruthless Operations netflix
In this film, “Yaksha” refers to the ruthless leader of an overseas black ops team. He goes on a dangerous mission in a battlefield of spies and agents. And as he tries to avoid a myriad of traps and betrayals? He ends up aligning himself with an honest special inspector who was sent from Seoul.
“With the highest spy density in the world,” the official Netflix summary reads, “Shenyang is the geopolitical hotspot of Northeast Asia. Kang-in, team leader of the Black Team dedicated to overseas covert operations in South Korea, is active in Shenyang, he is a veteran who will do whatever he can to accomplish his mission, and he is commonly referred to as “Yaksha”.
The summary continues. One day, the South Korean National Intelligence Service discovers that all the conclusions of the local trends report in Shenyang (sent by the black team) are in fact false. “Seriously disturbed by this, NES 4th Director Ms. Yeom Jeong-won sends Seoul Central Prosecutor’s Office Prosecutor Han Ji-hoon as a special inspector. Yaksha and the Dark Team try to kick out/shake Ji-hoon (Special Inspector), but he constantly follows the Dark Team’s operations.
Korean movies on Netflix
I’m definitely happy to see more titles like Yaksha appear on Netflix right now. Because thanks to successes like squid game, these are the Korean TV shows that have been all the rage on Netflix so far. In reality, squid game (which is getting a second season) is currently Netflix’s biggest release of all time.
Realizing how increasingly popular its Korean content is around the world, Netflix is nonetheless going down this path. Other Korean movies recently released from the streamer include love and leashesfeaturing former Kpop star Seohyun (below).
Here you will also find other recent high-profile Korean releases from Netflix that are worth checking out. Including my favorite downstairs, steel rain. It’s essentially a buddy spy comedy, in which ghosts from the North and the South team up to prevent a catastrophic war.
- love and leashes: “Love never hurts so badly for two colleagues who enter into a contractual relationship as partners in consensual play, pleasure and pain.”
- Space sweepers“Chasing space junk and distant dreams in 2092, four misfits uncover explosive secrets while attempting to swap a wide-eyed humanoid.
- The Pirates – The Last Royal Treasure“A daring crew of Joseon pirates and bandits battle stormy waters, confusing clues, and militant rivals in search of royal gold lost at sea.”
- steel rain“In the midst of a coup, a North Korean operative escapes south with the country’s wounded leader in an effort to keep him alive and prevent a Korean War.”
